The ‘Hater’ Defense

23 07 2008

Black people love to argue with and bash one another. Most of the time it’s done in jest, even if the arguments we make against one another are completely sound. I’ve spent a lot of time on this site bashing various groups of people and individuals, including but certainly not limited to:

  • Black People
  • Persians
  • Beyonce
  • Creoles
  • Ethiopians
  • Pro Athletes
  • Greek Org Members

Naturally, each of these tongue-in-cheek polemics were taken seriously by some idiot (or, more often, legions of idiots) who would then leave indignant comments for all our amusement, and insanely lengthy emails for me to roll my eyes at and delete.

What’s interesting, though, is how quickly the logic of my arguments was dismissed by these jumping jackasses who, instead of debating me, simply refer to me as a ‘hater’. Their ‘argument’ is always that I am somehow jealous of the people I rail against – while they conveniently ignore the fact that, in other posts, I throw rhetorical poop at groups that I myself belong to.

For instance: my tirade against black women was attributed to my so-called lack of charm to snag them. The Persian post was the result of me wishing I was rich and could pull the girls they do. Several people said I can’t stand Beyonce because she gets to take, and I quote, “million dollar vacations”. I’m apparently angry at Creoles and Ethiopians because they’re to pretty for me and I can’t have them, I hate pro-athletes because they have more money than I ever will, and I’m mad at frat/soror members because I didn’t get a bid.

Of course, I can understand why these arguments are so frequently made. Anybody that’s been alive for more than 21 years knows that most people are idiots, and by extension, most people do idiotic things. Stupid is as stupid does. Among the favorite activities of the idiotic is arguing with people, which is admittedly something both idiots and non-idiots enjoy. What makes idiots unique (but by no means rare) is the fact that they’re utterly incapable of responding to a person’s arguments with logical and irrefutable counterpoints*. Instead, they follow this process:

Figure 1: Dummies for Dummies (click to enlarge)

Accusing people of jealously is a kneejerk reaction akin to immediately accusing people of racism when they criticize Black people. It’s the type of reaction that causes idiots, for example, to dismiss my entire argument against fraternities/sororities because I (jokingly) referred to stepping as ‘stomp dancing’. This is precisely the type of reaction that we need to do away with. Our tendency to make emotion-filled but logically empty arguments is one of the reasons so many people don’t take black people seriously**. Most people don’t make sound arguments like Michael Dyson’s argument against Bill Cosby. They instead yell “RACIST!” and when asked why, they just yell “RACIST!” even louder.

I am issuing a call to all black people right here and now: if you disagree with someone, DO NOT OPEN YOUR FUCKING MOUTH UNTIL YOU CAN ARGUE WITH THEM USING REASON AND LOGIC. Otherwise, you are making us all look bad. Furthermore, if you know someone prone to doing this – INTERCEPT THEM BEFORE THEY DO IT. They are fucking up the black community from the inside out, and the shit has to stop.

Somehow, I should find a way to incorporate the silencing of morons into the…project.

*This only occurs in the case where they’re attacking someone else’s arguments. If they’re defending their own arguments, they do so by examining the attacking argument for spelling errors and, if they find one, they tell you that you are wrong. That’s why there are hundreds of comments on this blog consisting of a single word or even a single character written solely to correct the spelling or grammar of a person’s own previous comment: those commentors are aware that idiots are everywhere, and apparently a lot of them read (and write) this blog.

**Emotional reactions are not unique to Black people, but we happen to be a group that can’t afford to make them. Spare me any angry emails, please.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

@ Esq: there is nothing sadder than people who think they are more informed or intelligent than they actually are.

It is almost depressing to be a well-read non-mute.

I guess I’m a fucking elitist, because most of the time, I want to draft people a required reading list before I even acknowledge their existence.

I am torn between wishing people would a) just say, “I am not very familiar with this subject matter or your perspective on it, but…” or b) reserve ALL comments until they REEEEEAAAADDDD.

The desire to be reasonable and logical is what prevented me from engaging in most classroom debates on racism. I’m too emotionally involved in the subject and prone to chanting “kill the white people”.

What is that saying about “Don’t argue with a fool. The spectators can’t tell the difference”. That has really helped me with trying to reserve my logical arguements with people who actually have some damn sense.

Arguements with “Church Folk” are the worst, cause they think they have “Jay-sus” on their side, no matter how wrong or stupid they sound.

I was just thinking how the art of conversation is lost. People don’t know how to talk/debate with any informed reasoning or logic anymore But I guess that is what happens when no one really reads or writes and watches BET all damn day.

This is why I like Chris. A proper mix of ;ogic, reason, satire, sarcasm, and a dollop of anger all blended together like the creamy center of a Cadbury egg.

23 07 2008

@modest-goddess:

I’m the exact opposite. Once, in a Sociology 101 discussion, my TA asked us to form groups and debate the question “Who is more likely to distrust the government/police department/etc.–blacks or whites?” I was one of only three black people in the class (and the only one in my group). When asked my opinion I stated that I thought black people were less likely to trust “the establishment” and my group members reluctantly agreed. Then they asked me to be the representative for the group.

When the class came back together and the TA asked each group to report its conclusions, only mine responded with “black people”. The rest of the class looked dumb-founded. But when our TA told us that studies showed that, indeed black people were less trusting of the gov’t, no one seemed surprised.

This pissed me off to no end. It’s like–why are you so afraid to state your opinion? Are you afraid that if you say something that can be seen as critical of blacks, I’m immediately going to call you a racist? That drives me nuts. When did minorities become so incapable of honest argument/debate? Why does everyone assume that I’m going to play the race card? Even my group members silently asked permission to come to the nigh-obvious conclusion, because it dealt with race .

Also, I think email and message boards has really fucked up the art of convo, because just about anyone can go to a public library or get a computer from BlueHippo nowadays, so that has ‘left the gate open’ in terms of people and access to information.

You wouldn’t believe the amounts of misunderstandings and miscommunications that I’ve had on the Internet due to people not understanding my sarcasm and/or satire, or they didn’t realize I was fucking with them.

I won’t pretend like I’m not the occasional emotional debater, but I agree, especially with how people argue. The chart puts it beautifully –“Read argument until ADD kicks in” lol! Few people actually listen to and consider everything that a person says, and that drives me crazy!

What I personally find intolerable is that most of the arguing is being done on the internet; you’d think by the way people just spew whatever the hell is on their minds at any given time that they’re afraid the internet is going to eat whatever post to which they’re responding.

Chris, of note, you should have heard some of the arguments in my old Con law two class. Its the semester we cover, Affirmative action, womens rights, abortion, and rights of illegals in our country. I was also forced to sit in class and learn the “reasonable fear of a black man” standard. (sigh) I heard so many fake statistics and lies from my classmates… “Did you know 99% of black men, fantasize about raping white women?”

23 07 2008
Jen

@Amadeo – I really think that cops should not be permitted access to tasers. As easy as it is for them to be trigger-happy, it is even easier for them to be taser-happy and every once and a while, we get the same results as if a gun had been used.

So much is wrong with the police system. How is it that cops don’t need AT LEAST as much training and education as social workers? THAT’S WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE!! Social workers with guns!!

And why do certain areas have an IQ CAP on who they will hire as police officers? We need the people with police authority in our cities to be as intelligent as possible.

And WHY is the bar so high for making cops criminally responsible for their lawless behavior??

I don’t think there is a group of people in the world I dislike more than cops. I’m not saying that I have never had a positive experience with someone who happened to be a police officer. I had two such experiences in childhood. But as a group–CHRIST. I always say that at a certain point in life, the lowest of lowlives have to make a decision as to whether they want to become career criminals or police officers. Those lowlives with a sense of loyalty, fairness and honesty become criminals.

Let’s not front that some people live to knock people down a peg or two; its the order of the day and the American way.

I think criticism and gossip is less about hate and more about resentment. How many times have you said to yourself: “Dis n*gga making how much? To do what?” How is dis n*gga paid and I have a Masters in Criminal Justice/Education/Social Work/Blah Blah Blah?”

But I get alot of idiots that say things to me. Especially those black people on campus that look me in the face and say I shouldn’t be around the Latinos because I’m lying about being Latino. With the rise of the internet, texting, BET, and other such (at times vapid) structures that rendered the ability to form a coherent sentence moot, the ability for people to form and have a salient argument died a horrible death. My youngest sister is 16 and I frequently have to ask her to “speak English and speak it slowly” because I never understand what she is saying, and she loves to throw out the “why you hatin” phrase whenever I question her about basically anything. Furthermore getting into an argument with her always leaves me annoyed with the education system as a whole because it reinforces the fact that kids are not being taught how to read, speak, or use proper English.

My general rule in life is that it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it.

As far as the cops go, one of the problems (along with what Jen said about the cops not being adequately trained for the psychology aspect of the work) is that Black people call the police for EVERYTHING. We act like they our parents. Mad at your son? Call the police. Neighbor took your Jet Magazine? Call the police. We have either lost all ability to effectively resolve conflicts on our own or we have gotten so afraid of one another, we feel we need an armed mediator. Or both.

Also- Black people complain about the police, but do nothing about it aside from marching when a young Black male is killed or harmed by the cops (brutality cases against Black women are met with typical Black silence and rarely make the news). We need people to JOIN THE POLICE FORCE. If there is gonna be an armed presense charged with the responsibility of protecting our community, it needs to be US. “Church Folk” are of the devil.

Fucking WORD.

My dad was a pastor for 25 years. He is forever saying, “Some of the worst people I’ve ever met and dealt with in my life come from the church.”

Thanks to years of religious hypocricy, my brother is an agnostic/borderline atheist, and I think I’m borderline agnostic myself. I still attend church, but I don’t agree with everything in the bible, and I’m not one to talk in absolutes. So I’m considered a ‘hater’, or worse, ‘hellbound’ by many…Oh well. Don’t trip, he ain’t through with me yet.

@ Bajan Girl…I tell my brother the same thing. He’s a fresh 18 and he always sounds like he’s speaking another language, and mumbles on top of it.

@ Rev…after my pastor retired a couple of years back, I stopped going to church. Other than the fact the new pastor sounds like Ben Stein (and his son, who’s my age, is the devil’s spawn), the congregation kind of went mad after he left. For instance, some of the Sisters in the church act like the lady from Fighting Temptations, passing judgement on everybody entering the door, with skeletons of their own in their closets.

Rev,
I noticed something the other week that made me sad. I was getting ready for church and had on the INSP channel. Joel Osteen was on preaching about God’s love and how our God is a forgiving God. It was very uplifiting.

Then I went to my church where the preacher told me I was going to Hell and we better be afraid cause Goooood knows what we do, etc… Why do white churches teach about love and hope and then a lot of the black churches I go to try to “scare” me into religion? I know there are churches like that on both ends…but geez…I just want my preacher to tell me how loving and forgiving God is, since I am such a messed up individual and I make mistakes. What denomination are you? I learned that the more evangelical and sanctified type of churches tend to be the biggest about telling everyone about how hellbound they are.

And there are a lot of white churches that are just as bad with all the, “You’re going to hell!” too. Rev Fred Phelps is one example, but he is in the extreme, but you get my drift.

I stick with the non-demoninational churches nowadays, and even then you have to be careful…

For instance, some of the Sisters in the church act like the lady from Fighting Temptations, passing judgement on everybody entering the door, with skeletons of their own in their closets.

I hated when Sister “Jenkins” was always talking shit about the young folks, but I knew that Sister Jenkins was fucking “Elder ‘Brown'” back in the day when he was married to ‘Curtisene/Beulah/Earnestine’ and has a now-grown child that looks suspiciously like him. Or that 90 Year Old “Mother ‘Johnson'” who just gave Booshietta a sideways comment about her dress, but Mother Johnson was fucking every Slyvester, Bruce, and Samuel in the juke joint back in the day.

Or who had abortions or who was practicing Voodoo/Hoodoo on the side…

I tell people that God’s Love is supposed to break you free from what you did in the past, but you don’t use that to condemn others when the dirt you did was no better.

“Stop Snitching” is the stupidest expression ever created. And of course it was created by our folks so people who deserve to go to jail or even be tasered to death will still be able to roam the streets selling drugs to your children and shooting up the streets, stray bullets flying everywhere, killing babies in their sleep.

I’m sorry about that mini-rant but I HATE that expression.

HATER is also fucking annoying. On the bus when I was younger, I was chatting with some of these hyper-ghetto girls, who you don’t think really exist until you meet one, and they asked me if I liked rap music. I said no. They LOUDLY started yelling about how I was “hatin” and jealous of all rappers and how I wanted to be like them and therefore was hating on their music. Meanwhile I’m just sitting there thinking…I just don’t particularly like rap. It has nothing to do, really, with the people who make the music, I just don’t find it pleasing to the ear.

Black people aren’t the only people that don’t “snitch” on each other, white people don’t, Jews don’t, Republicans don’t, Democrats don’t and most importantly POLICE don’t and they all have alot less to be afraid of than people who live in very dangerous neighborhoods.

Black police officers are no less likely to treat black people in a brutal manner, it is the manner in which police approach their jobs which is the problem, they have almost no connection to the community and are under the impression that it is their job to fight the community than defend it.

Conversely many of us have the impression that we should be against all police instead having just wanting things to be done differently.

I think the inability to engage in debate has a lot to do with so many people receiving a poor education in this country. The educational system has been outdated for decades and its showing. Most Americans don’t have the ability to analyze using logic. So when faced with something they don’t agree with they don’t know how to logically explain why they disagree. We see this all the time with people using religion to disagree. Most people haven’t even read the bible much less understand that it’s been interpreted dozens of times by people who had secret or not-so secret agendas.

For instance the bible never says anything about homosexuality; but if you tell some religious nut that they will go crazy disagreeing and start quoting scripture to prove their point. And the scripture they quote actually defeats their point.

Reading comprehension is a lost art in this country.

“Besides, unless there was some sort of massive minority movement into the system, the most obvious result of such action would be the corruption of a few bright-eyed, bushy-tailed baby revolutionaries.”

That’s not true, Jen. For one, most large urban cities (and even some small ones) have a large number of Black cops. While Black cops can be the WORST ONES, the new Black cop can at least be at ease that he is not a complete minority. Also, there are orgs like the African American Police Alliance to support you.

Furthermore, I wouldn’t recommend that “bright-eyed bushy tailed baby revolutionaries” do anything beyond continuing their studies until they are adequately prepared to serve the community in any form or fashion. If one truly has knowledge of self and a solid understanding of why they need to join the ranks of an often-corrupt and dangerous police force in order to serve the Black community, then they won’t LIKELY be corrupted. Whereas, if they are only coming in to get a good government job with benefits, then yeah, they may crumble under pressure.

My father was a Chicago Police detective, he served for 26 years or so. He hated the CPD, hated the “justUS system”, but he did it because he knew that we needed real Black people in the streets protecting our interests, using the spirit of the law (as opposed to the letter of the law) as a guide.

I’m a law-abiding citizen, but I really am not a fan of police.

The more I learn about Constitutional Law, the more shocked I am by police behavior. Did you know that Constitutionally, if a police officer stops you based on reasonable suspicion, s/he is only allowed to frisk you for weapons– NOT dig into your pockets for drugs? Its supposed to keep the officer safe. Considering that most of our men are in jail on drug charges, this makes a huge difference.

I’m no apologist for drug dealers and other criminals in our community. But 2520 commit JUST AS MANY CRIMES as we do, but aren’t arrested/ treated the same. The 9th Circuit recently made a judicial finding that there is racial bias in the Criminal Justice System. Now, I know that’s obvious to most of us here, but now that it’s on the record, 2520s might be forced to do something about it.

Sorry to get all Masters Degree on you, but Critical Race Theory was the only interesting part of my legal education…. Wait, no, I’m not sorry about that at all.

Why doesn’t Chris have a book deal already? I remember that SWPL hit the web, it got popular, I stopped reading it, the author was featured on NPR, and a couple weeks later, there was a book in stores ( I stopped liking that site because it became White People’s way of validating their whiteness rather than critiquing it– i.e., people would post, “OMG, I am sooooo white! After reading this I realize that I’m so much more whiter (?) than all of you!”). Whatever. Point being is that white people ate it up, and so they wrote a book.

That said, I wonder if Dummies for Dummies would also be corrupted by White People and used against us…. like, you know, the difference between what we say around each other vs. what we say in mixed company?

Just curious.

23 07 2008

Stop Snitching actually has it’s roots in the days of the Black Panthers, when the idea of community policing was being touted. Since the cops were routinely killing Black folks and whupping their asses (in waaaay greater numbers than what we see now) and failed to actually serve or protect the community, folks thought it would be better to take certain things up among themselves. For example, if in 1968, I call the police and say “Tommy stole my sons bike”, I know that Tommy can end up dead or beat the fuck up when (and if) the cops come. So, instead, I call up some of the brothers from the block who would, ideally, talk some sense in to Tommy, fuss at him and make him return the bike with an apology.

Great in theory and certainly plausible with small crimes like this. But obvioulsly, our community failed to develop a longstanding and effective system of community policing. So now, we have the same reticence to cooperate with the police, and it only benefits those who hurt us most. The police also have themselves to blame for this. However, it should be noted that some people who fail to “snitch” do it to protect themselves, as I have read stories of entire neighborhoods turning on someone who dare tell the police about some shit a thug did.

23 07 2008

You almost made me spit out my tea. LOL

I couldn’t be a cop either. There are people I know personally that I’d taser and billy club the hell out of. I would seriously abouse my power, pull over white folks and take them to jail for small things acting like I’m a “By the book” cop. “Just following the rules ma’am, it’s against the law to drive with no shoes on, you just looked like a barefoot driver”. While I have been in this country for many years my very first exposure to school came in the islands. When we came to the U.S. I went to public school up until the 6th grade, then private schools from 7th grade on while my sisters stayed in public schools. When I compare the education that we received from both public and private schools with the education that my little sister is receiving now, the deficit is astounding. I also taught high school for two years and was very disheartened at what I saw going on in the schools. Why as a history teacher did I have to ask my colleagues who taught english to do special classes on grammar and writing? I had my students keep daily journals and reading them was painful sometimes. I realised that my students could not write a proper sentence, much less an entire essay or paper.

The fine arts of debate, public speaking, writing, and general conversation have been lost.

The self-identified Korean store owner began lecturing me on how the Black community needed to rise up against hair manufacturers who pass off synthetic hair as real human hair when selling wefts, tracks, wigs, etc… He assumed that I was a beautician (**eyebrow raise**) and told me that the Black community is being ripped off as a whole and that we should sue.

23 07 2008
chaoticdiva

@ Rev…for a child to be home schooled, their parents have to have a degree. Then the state sends you teaching materials. At least thats the last thing I heard about the Michigan laws.

I’m noticing how charter schools are popping up in place of public schools out here.

..don’t get me started on the education budget…I need to get ready for work…

Yeah, C.D. After that, I seriously had to find my local Black BSS. And yes! More Dominicans need to come out with products and stores. We need more capital to start our own black businesses in the community!

I have an idea: how about all of us on this site form a new alliance. We’re all for bringing up the black community, we’re all distributed all over the country, so we all can have a sphere of influence in improving the country.

We need a name for it…

23 07 2008
Omar

@Nice – this did happen…

…in a white neighborhood affectionately known as the Las Vegas strip when Tupac got shot, nobody knew nothing…

White people are no different than anyone else they do what they think will make them safe in the immediate sense. in many of their neighborhoods they have more of a community policing mind set and many of the criminals don’t LIVE there so the way they interact with crime is different.

Not snitching (telling) is as old as crime, basically people don’t tell because criminals may kill them…

The connundrum in black communities, is that telling may put you in immediate danger but not telling puts the entire community in greater danger. But hey, instead of fix it most people are trying to “make it out” right…

I didn’t know there were Dominicans in Detroit til I found a salon through their locator…these shits are hidden.

chaoticdiva,

You have to separate Latinos though. Mexicans don’t particularly like Black people nor do they like acknowledging their African roots, where as Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Dominicans do generally acknowledge their African roots. With the exception of some Dominicans who have definite self-hate issues when it comes to Blackness.

23 07 2008
Bajan Girl

Rev: my two nephews have both been home schooled to a point. As they are both classified as autistic it took a while for my sister to find schools that could accommodate and properly teach them without having to specifically put them in a “special ed” class. To that end my sister had an occupational therapist and speech pathologist come to the house to work with the boys, and she met with specialists to learn techniques to teach the boys the basics (reading, spelling, math…etc). She has since been able to find schools that can support the needs that each one has (while both are autistic their needs are very different) but still continues to reinforce what they learn in the classroom at home. She regularly meets with their teachers and when they are on breaks from school she still has “class” with them each day. She also makes sure that we as the extended family know certain techniques and procedures for when we are watching the boys.

As an observer to her situation I would say home schooling is a daunting task not to be approached lightly because you can seriously screw your kid up if you do not take time to properly prepare yourself as the educator and have the proper resources.

Why is that? I have had an experience where a Latino upon seeing me gave me the stink eye and was watching me some type of way UNTIL I opened my mouth and started speaking (apparently I speak too properly to be black so I must be from somewhere else, and I have been told that I do have an accent of some sort) to ask a question, then they were suddenly much nicer to me.

Well I guess it depends on what kind of Latino you were dealing with. For instance a lot of Dominicans have serious skin color issues and also issues with hair. It’s basically the same old Black self-hate thing but some Dominicans take it to a new level.

Home schooling can be extremely effective. But generally any SMALL learning community is effective, provided sufficent instruction capabilities. You can’t be a lazy asss and expect the kids to get it thorugh osmosis. The only thing they tend to lack is social skills, but currently homeschoolers have programs designed to get other homeschoolers together for art or athletics or whatever. If one chooses to home school, then to ease social awkardness, they have to make sure their kids are involved in social activities (church, sports, classes.) Personally I want to send my son to Will & Jada’s school. I bet its dope.

I agree with the stop snitching comment but sadly people don’t understand what is snitching.

There is a difference between reporting a crime and snitching.

SNITCHING IS WHEN ONE IS ARRESTED OR APPROACHED BY THE FEDS AND TO GET OUT OF A CHARGE OR AN INVESTIGATION THEY “RAT” ON ANOTHER CRIMINAL… If someone robs you and you tell the cops who did it that is not snitching.

There is a fine line between hating and offering valid criticism. People tend to get very emotional when someone is challenging their point of view and at that point logic goes out of the door. Not to sound sexist but women tend to be guilty of using emotions over logic than men. From my personal experience women tend to lead with their feeling which they interprete that as logical while men seem to critically evaluate the situation and come to their conclusions based on facts, not feelings. Don’t stone me…I’m just speaking from personal experience.

23 07 2008
Monie

Wasn’t Al Sharpton a “snitch” for the FBI back in the day?

23 07 2008
Amadeo

Lot’s of cops suck…but their systems sucks as bad as mine. For instance having cops on the street only makes people feel good…but it does not stop crime. On the cop end when people want to see results they’re told to make arrests…doesn’t mean people will get convicted just locked up for a lil’ bit. On the lower rungs there are always people that suck, but it’s policy makers that fuck it up for everyone. That’s normally why good people in various fields end up doing something else.

Stop Snitching only works when people regulate themselves. I told some kids once…MOB BOSSES SNITCH!!! You think some scared ass dude who doesn’t want to get locked up won’t snitch on your ass.

Then on the other side if people didn’t live right next to the criminals maybe they would tell. They fire bombed the Dawson Family here for trying to stand up against crime. Cops were supposed to be protecting them, but when they cops left the people who were the threat lived on the block. Availability…people feared the mob cause they were right there. People fear drug dealers cause they are right there. People don’t give a damn about the cops cause they take forever to get there and then the leave again.

Don’t get me started on the “stop snitching” bullshit. Black people have taken that phenomenon too far. I understand back in the day Black people were actually protecting each other from the abusive police force. But nowadays the “stop snitching” ideology is allowing crimes within our community to go unreported and victims not getting justice for the wrong that was inflected upon them. If I see some asshole breaking the law then I’m snitching. As someone who has had family members who were victims of crimes, I can’t understand why anyone would protect a dangerous criminal. Regardless of how system is set up, wrong is wrong. No one forces anyone to commit crimes or violate the rights of others.

The one major beating I received in my life time was because I saw one of my older sisters do something and said nothing (although I did tell her she was going to get in trouble when mommy and daddy found out I figured it wasn’t my business to tell). When my dad came home that night we were summoned from bed, lined up in the kitchen where the belt was in plain sight on the table and asked about it. Cynthia McKinney is the main reason many are calling former Clinton-supporters threatening to vote for McCain racist: ’cause if they were really concerned about getting a woman into the WHand not just a *white* woman, they would all be taking up McKinney’s cause, instead of supporting the Republican.

Moral of the story: Don’t call Cynthia McKinney at 3 am if you can’t handle the pms rant of a woman scorned by a hairstyle making her unrecognizable.

Honestly, if we have a woman president, it needs to be a confident woman who doesn’t succumb to the catty mentality when little shit pisses her off. The catty mentality (i.e. I want revenge by form of gossip and sympathy) is what was Hillary’s downfall.

The stink eye is overcompensation for an severe inferiority complex and a combination of arrogant pride. Hell their ex prez Vicente Fox’s ignant comments that Mexicans do jobs that even blacks won’t. That’s the mindset. Did they forget that we did those jobs for free for 400 years? Condi has probably been fighting white broads her entire life (or was prepared too), so she is more scrappy. However, Michelle grew up in Chicago, around Black women, so she has more follow through.

Condi’s general anger may put her over the top, since Michelle is relaxed, happy and as Landon pointed out, more sexually satisfied.

But Michelle is my girl, so I might just have to ruin it by jumping in and helping if it got to be too much….

On a more realistic note, don’t you kinda think that Michelle and Condi would be friends? Especially considering the fact that 2520s will probably get them confused for the next couple of years?

Im watching the show, not because I am particularly interested in it, (I dont need a show to tell me how it is to be black in America) but because if we DONT watch it, networks like CNN and the like will pull that type of programming.

Its the same reason I buy magazines with blacks on the cover. I dont even read some of those things.

Aww Queen…thats not nice. Why the smart, intelligent, black woman had to sleep with her boss to get there? Thats not nice, and I think a lot of people say that because they are not convinced that a black woman can be a republican or can get a job like that based on her own merit.

I dont agree with Condaleeza, but I sure do respect her.

Oh lord the hateration lol…. I’m called a hater when I say I hate Lil Wayne, no-sense 50 Cent, BET, Bob Johnson, T-Pain, Akon, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Amy Winehouse (I loved you when u were bigger Amy… that crack shit aint funny no mo’)…. the list goes on. Then I present the argument why I hate them and I get a blank stare…. thenthe person decides that repetition for emphasis is their best argument, stupse.

I think that Black people do need some of their own in the police force but I find down here (in Barbados) that the Police force is like 100% black (98% if u count the Khreyoles) AND THE MUTHAFUCKAS STILL CORRUPT!!! They get on this power trip and see themselves as being above the law and better than the people they serve… when you gotta stop their bullshit and point out that u actually know your rights is when they step back and have to reassess the situation.

@ Sista Toldja – I cosign ur comments… i hate Black people sumtimes too.

I probably cant catch the special tonight, since time is not on my side these days. I hope its good. Unfortch, I usually get mad at those types of TV shows because they’re often written/produced by those who don’t have our best interests in mind (the exception being “When the Levees Broke”).

Now that Black is in again, Others are hungry for anything that they can know about Us (because we’re all the same). Accordingly, networks feel the need to present a “balanced perspective” of the Black experience. Generally, I find that they strike said “balance” between “assuaging white guilt by denying racism,” and “kinda alluding to racial difference and experience through scientific study and proven facts.” (What comedian said, “White people didn’t believe that cops were beating Black people until they saw it on Newsweek!” ?)

I’m sorry to be a Hater, but there some things simply defy my logic. So-called balance or “colorblindness” is one of those things, ESPECIALLY on tv.

Not to say that alcoholism is the new hotness, but men who don’t enjoy a strong cocktail usually have control issues… or are boring as hell. I mean, even James Bond enjoyed a martini, and he had much more important things to do than, you know, just talk and dance with me.

The “professional man” is annoying as all hell. They refuse to let up with their stiffness as though letting loose once and awhile will destroy their chances at world domination. Not drinking, as riz says, is a major turn-off for me. If you don’t drink with me, even if it’s just a glass of wine with dinner, then you have control issues and I can’t deal with that shit.

And riz, where did you get your name from? Because everytime I say it in my head all I get is “Looking pretty good this year, huh, Rizz?” (from Grease, for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about)

Maybe you should find a man that doesn’t drink and isn’t drab – you don’t have to get drunk to have a good time!

I never said I need to get drunk to have a good time. It is fine if you kno people who dont drink and are fun. You kno them, I dont. Hence the term ‘from experience’. Your experiences in life may be different from mine. I think you are reading more into what I said than what I actually wrote. I never mentioned anything about needing to get drunk to have fun. I’m quite sure there are professional men and non-drinkers that are a blast to be around- I just havent met any yet.

wait hold up….. you came on the comments section of “the hater defense” throwing out insults and calling people names like you’re 5 calling out chris claiming he was lying about saying stomp dancing repeatedly (which he never denied saying).

I took two steps of deduction and believed your motivation to note this and the ire displayed in your claim was some way of accusing him of being dishonest about poking fun at people for the joy of it – as apposed to him doing this because he is in fact a hater.

the link was to support the claim that i made that others also refer to stepping with other terms.

Angry IV: What other good, fun things do you avoid because you don’t like the way that they make you feel, eh?

I mean, I drink in moderation. Its not a problem for me, unless I want it to be. I just think that if I’m not having as much fun w/ a dude then I would otherwise be having with my girlfriends, then what point is he serving? I’m not saying that he should come shopping with me or throw his jacket down in the middle of our dance circle at the club. But I’m saying that he’s got to bring something more than just that dyack.

I guess the whole booze thing is just another way of saying what Chris, and most commenters agree about, in terms of bougie EBP: Loosen up and have fun. Crack a damn joke. Show some personality. Excite me. My only thing is that I don’t blame the “education” part for this behaviour. I just think that some ppl are, and have always been, boring snob-nobs. They never knew how to have a good time in the first place. Now they just hide behind their degrees and expect me to be impressed by their earning potential. Too bad I’m not.

It is possible that in a dating atmosphere, it mite take awhile to get to that point, but I never stick around long enuf to see :(.

24 07 2008
riz

@ Jen,

Sorry, girl, but with the advent of the g-string, there is little, if no, reason to go without panties. I’m best friends with Vicky Sees. I own everything by that company and love me some pretty under things. I buy underwear more often than shoes, almost as much as sunglasses. I even have that amazing, high tech, futuristic VS bra with the straps that you can wear in 100 different ways.

That’s because I want to be sexy, but I gotta wear drawers. It’s only sanitary. Plus, the fun part happens they’re taken OFF. I don’t need to cheat myself of that.

RE: Boring law students. I KNOW, it’s a DAMN SHAME. Part of it is because of the law school that I went to. I have no words for the general NAACP-ery that I experienced for the last 3 years. I would pay money to watch Chris meet all those kids, then write about it, or just clown to their faces. But alas, that’s a diff rant altogether.

Admittedly, when I kicked it with NBLSA, they were hella cool and I really enjoyed their company. Most of them were from the East Coast. Maybe my Yawner experiences were bc I was in SF.

But I mean, my experience with lawyer men? Meh. The ones of other races party more than us, and I have a good time with them… By that, I’m referring to the Latino ones. With us, I find that the men are just… I dunno… Trying too hard? All the lawyers that I’ve met from Stanford and Boalt, well, it’s like they are trying so hard to NOT be the n*gga on the block, that they just become the D*ouchebag in the Office.

Why do you think that I’m on this site so much? It’s been an awful long time since a man made me laugh!… (and No, Amadeo, “laugh” is NOT a metaphor. I’m being literal!)

24 07 2008
Jen

Yeah…last black law student I dated was a total douchebag. But he was definitely an alcoholic! Black law students/lawyers drink more than any other group of middle class Black people I’ve ever met.

Also…I understand how this is counterintuitive, but panties actually encourage infection. I’d imagine g strings and thongs and such are even more problematic. Ladies are actually encouraged to freeball it when they can.

Yes, g- strings are the worse. You are only suppose to wear them on occasion. Most obgyn’s will tell you not to wear underwear at nite in order to let it “breathe”. And stick with cotton.

24 07 2008
riz

@Jen, You’re def right about woman being free is good for her. The ‘nani most needs to breathe. And on second thought, I do tend to go free at night when I go to bed (and also on laundry day). I was more referring to when I go out. I tend to wear dresses and skirts, and so it’s not worth it for me to risk a Lohan, or to sit down on something foul. Plus, I do wear a lot of cotton drawers, too, which permits me to breathe and yet avoids me “showing my picture” to anyone.

24 07 2008
scarletjones

@nice – i could see that, but unfortunately i think you’re probably meeting the real deal if a man is starchy on the first date. its a shame really that some black folk with sucessful lives feel like they have to pull over the whole “professional” facade when they get the professional adornments and papers.

@riz – i cry for you because you are black in california… california is hard on a sista’s self esteem man.

@jen – i actually could go my whole life without even knowing what my IQ is. it’s just not something i think is that important really. As long as i have the mental agility to think critically and i’m of sound mind i’m good.

When are ya’ll gonna get wind of the next Great Migration??? It brought my great grandparents from Tennessee and into Chicago. My mom’s generation came out to Cali, where I was born and raised. If I could just import more of my people here, everything would be absolutely perfect!

24 07 2008
Jen

IQ is bullshit. IQ tests can be learned like any other standardized tests. I’m not sure how any test that measures your vocab (such as many IQ tests) is supposed to be a reliable measurement of general intelligence. I was just saying…

Riz, you need to come to Texas. I lived on the East Coast for years. And, every day this summer, I have had a moment where I just had to love and appreciate Black men here. Today, a younger Black guy–he looked 17 – 19 years old–called me lovely. That is just such a sweet thing to say to a woman. You don’t hear that sort of thing everywhere, and it really has done something for my general demeanor.

24 07 2008
scarletjones

@nice – i always tell my ladyfriends that an open mind allows for more opportunities. the worst that will happen if you go out with a dude more than once is that it will definitely let you know that date 3 is not necessary. and maybe some of the dudes are just nervous and throwing out the things that they are confident about (academic achievement, good job, etc.) to make themselves more comfortable. Doesn’t make for a good date though. 😦

@riz – i completely know what you mean. i spent the last 3 years of my highschool years in california and the people were the top thing i was glad to leave behind when i left for college. I don’t know what it is with relations between black people in cali, but i know it is confusion.

I live in Wisconsin. Must I say, there are not many brothas here to choose from. Blacks make up about 2% of the state population. I kno there gotta be some out here. Still searching, but will find, with an open mind 🙂 .

24 07 2008
riz

It’s deep out here. I mean, CA Blacks lack some of the issues that you see in other places (lack of color consciousness, less Greek competition, more open-mindedness), but then there is another element here. CA Blacks don’t know what to do with white society, since most of us grew up surrounded by it such diversity that we have to make a bigger effort to obtain a cultural identity. Luckily, I was successful in doing so, and I’m quite confident in myself, having made it here, where I can enjoy my Cali lifestyle.

But the Bob Johnsons that I went to school with were not so lucky. They were so busy trying to prove how “diverse” and non-Black that they were, that they adopted this Crab in a Barrel mentality. Then they pointed the Too Militant/Segregationist finger at anyone who didn’t claim to be 1/4 Puerto Rican. Personally, I didn’t care about being called Militant (despite the irony). But what I did care about is the damage that it does to Black identity as a whole.

I’m happy with where I am, proud of who I am and infinitely pleased by my rooftop pool that overlooks the Hollywood sign. I’m not gonna lie– I love it. But I miss down-ass Black people. This second party really affects my potential life partners (or lack thereof).

lmao @ thundercats! i never understood why that was the case with brothas from these cities that are within a 100 mile radius of a large city. i’ve heard it from other people about milwaukee dudes too.

I cry for you, Nice. 2%?? I would have given up on negritude.

yeah navigating black identity in cali is very hard, and i do believe that the abundance of diversity in the state plays a part. i also believe that the push from “others” to require that diversity be a necessecity in all parts of your life is a big part too.

i felt like i couldn’t comfortably just be about my blackness and other black people while i was there. and if you weren’t like the white/filipino/mexican girls then there was something “wrong” with you – i thought that was ridiculous.

it’s lonely for real being “black” in cali sometimes.

I just don’t kno. I think they are tryin to imitate some mess they saw somewhere else. It bothers me. I know most Milwaukee people migrated from the south and Chicago, but for our city to have a close to 600,000 population, the crime rate is ridiculous. They even cancelled African World Festival because they thought folks were gonna try to shoot eachother up.

It is no suprise that people refer to Milwaukee as Kill-waukee.

Yeah, it is lonely being Black in Cali. This probably explains my “Go to hell, I gives a f*ck” attitude towards most everything and everybody…

On a different note, am I wrong to be furious that there will be a Mortgage bailout , but they have ended the last bit of FEMA support for the hurricane?

Ah man… too deep, too deep. F this. I’m gonna go watch that Black in America special and go soak in the jacuzzi.

We went to Six Flags Great America for 8th grade graduation and there were mad dudes from Milwaukee there with Jheri Curls. This was 1998, by the way. It was like being in a time warp. I wish they had digital cameras back then so I had evidence, though I probably do have a pic or two on one of those undeveloped Kodak disposables I have at my momma house.

ST, don’t get me started. Im not tryin to bash my city, but Mil niggas are always a day late and a dollar short. My cousin is a barber and he still lines a dude with a curl, WTF.

I’m convinced that Jheri Curls will come back in our children’s generation, as revenge for us biting so hard off 60s and 70s style (hello, afros and flared leg denim). I don’t know what I’d do if my 14 year old son begged for a Jheri Curl because “All the guys at school have one.”

I’d die.

24 07 2008
Sister Toldja

Riz- You know, I would die too. But everything else that could “never come back” has. If grunge, baby doll dresses and women dressing like gangster b-s come back, I will then put my money on jheri curls. *Shivers*

@ST: Ugh, I’m so mad that plaid flannel came back! Seriously? I was in SF, and I pointed out like 3 flannels one night. I warned my friends that Joey Lawrence styles were creepin on the comeup (in true 90s form)… Then BAMN! Grunge is back. And I’m sad.

They started callin them Wave Nouveau’s after a while, I guess Jheri Curl was too 80’s.

S-Curl = the new jheri. Back in H.S. for some reason, my retarded friend and his loyal band of idiots made it a local trend. The light skinned dudes would do it calling themselves trying to look “rican” (no, they would say shit like that). Thank goodness, I haven’t seen one since graduation.

This delves into I problem I have with most people. When I try to debate people and I use sound logic and reason to chop their ideas or arguments into lil useless bits they say i’m being mean or hating instead of listening to what I’m saying. Usually when I hear something stupid come out of a person’s mouth I stop them before they finish and correct their error. Problem is by doing this in their eyes I nullify my own argument cause I had the audacoty to cut them off while they were making their idiotic point. Fuck these jackasses. Love this post.

I like how you lumped Beyonce in with the various ethnic groups. Beyonces ass only is its own ethnic group. While im on the subject of asses, I suggest a post about Kim KardASSian…..though you are from the east coast, and probably dont hear about her as much as I do living on the west coast………

If people are missing the supposed points of your blogs, then you should learn to make more effective posts. The reality of the matter is that your blogs are inherently racist, and the comments they generate feed the racist crowd to whom you are appealing to.

Saying that people are too dumb or illogical to understand your posts is an ad hominem attack–it is illogical in its own right. It is circular argument of “You don’t get what I am saying because you don’t get what I am saying.” These are not tongue-in-cheek polemics when they bring out such hateful not-tongue-in-cheek comments. Also, if you have to explain “satire,” trust me, you as a writer are failing.

I realize that you are a young man, so it is obvious that you are not too familiar with other cultures. Having a few token friends do not make someone knowledgeable. I recommend that you travel. I recommend that you look at your own self and your own inadequacies. Bashing other people is a symptom of inadequacy.

Also, come to other blogs designed for other X-American minority communities and you will find ZERO posts on bashing black people. We are just not that into you.

Instead of bringing out the hateful comments from within you and from others, focus on what you can do to improve yourself and others.

Same goes to the Black community here: Heal yourself, or at the very least, deal with your anger.

We, the other minorities, are doing just fine. We don’t waste our time thinking about you. WE REALLY DON’T. Don’t waste your time on us.

Yeah, so I’m pretty sure that I already said that to you in another post… Something along the lines of… “I don’t care what you think.” So if you don’t like the blog, simply go away and don’t read it. Trust, no one will ever inquire why you stopped posting nonsense.

We’ll take it as a gift and simply move on.

But if someone hasn’t already (damn, you get a lot of comments), I’d like to point out one thing that’s hard to wrap one’s head around – I’ll use the GO’s, for example.

You criticize them (tongue in cheek or no, either way, doesn’t matter as long as someone takes it seriously).

Someone then retorts that you would only criticize if you have a huge emotional investment in the organization or its people, and that clearly you could only be so malicious if you were spurned.

But of course, those people are, themselves, going out of their way to criticize YOU. It’s not as though they’re defending something. They can’t say, “I’m only here because I feel attacked and am instead offering a cogent and logical defense of my fraternity or sorority”, because “you’re just jealous” is neither of those. This means that by their own logic, they clearly DEEPLY desire your approval of every aspect of their lives and your endorsement, and now that they’ve failed to garner that, they’re just a bunch of jealous haters (their logic and terminology, not mine).

Seriously. It more or less holds water for just about every complaint you get. “He hates the music I like/the group I joined/the athlete I support and I thought he was so cool. But now this latest article has indicated that he would no longer think that I’m cool enough to hang out with, so I’m going to whine and pout that he didn’t just gloss over the things that he didn’t like (even though that’s the point of the blog) – while remaining completely blind to the fact that I, myself, am spending my time commenting because I’m incapable of glossing over things that I don’t like.”

I’m sorry, I think I broke something in my frontal lobe. I’m just going to drool on my keyboard for a bit, thanks.
